Abstract

This study aimed to investigate root induction in daughter plants of the ‘Akihime’ strawberry grown in a modified CMU2S nutrient solution in an evaporative cooling greenhouse at the Faculty of Agriculture, Chiang Mai University. In the first week, the electrical conductivity (EC) of the nutrient solution was maintained at 0.0 mS/cm and gradually increased to 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0 mS/cm in the second, third, and fourth weeks, respectively. The experiment was conducted using a (2×2)+1 factorial arrangements in a completely randomized design (CRD) with seven replications. Factor A consisted of indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) at 0.6 and 1.2 mg/L while Factor B consisted of gibberellic acid (GA3) at 50 and 150 mg/L. The basal ends of the daughter plants were dipped in the respective treatment solutions for 3 min, with distilled water used as the control. The results revealed an interaction between IBA and GA3 on the number of roots and chlorophyll content in strawberry daughter plants. All treatments had a lower number of roots and chlorophyll content than the control, except for the combination of 1.2 mg/L IBA and 50 mg/L GA3, which showed no significant difference from the control.
