Abstract

The anesthetic effects of clove oil were studied in Sharptooth Catfish, Clarias gariepinus (average 6.5±4.91 g in BW; 9.80±0.88 cm in TL). Clove oil concentration at 0, 5, 10, 15 and 20 ppm were used in study. The results showed no effect of clove oil to Sharptooth Catfish at 0, 5 and 10 ppm. After exposure to Clove oil at 15 and 20 ppm, showed the Sharptooth Catfish can be started to stage 2 (Stage of Loss Equilibrium). The optimum concentration of anesthetic was 20 ppm in Sharptooth Catfish which induced fish to stage 2 within 5 minutes after exposure to Clove oil and sedative effect lasted for 4 hours.
