Abstract

The objective of the present study was to improve the culture medium and the survival rates of in vitro-produced blastocyst embryos from native cattle. The effects of supplementing the culture medium with linoleic acid albumin (LAA) (0, 1, 2, and 3 mg/ml) and conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) (0, 0.1, 0.2, and 0.3 mg/ml) on the production rates of 2- to 4-cell embryos to D8 blastocyst embryos and on the survival rates of vitrified blastocyst embryos were evaluated. The results showed that the blastocyst rates in the LAA 0 mg and 1 mg groups were higher than in the 2 mg and 3 mg groups (P<0.05), and the CLA 0 mg and 0.1 mg groups were higher than the 0.2 mg and 0.3 mg groups (P<0.05). In conclusion, this study demonstrated that supplementation with LAA and CLA in the embryo medium from day 2 to day 8 had no beneficial effect on blastocyst embryo production in native cattle.
