Production and analysis of cost, returns of white sea bass (Lates calcarifer) culture on the rock salt field: a case study in Hong farm in Ban Dung District, Udon Thani Province
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study aims to analyze the cost and benefits of raising giant sea bass (Lates calcarifer) in the rock salt fields of Ban Dung district, Udon Thani province. The data was collected through in-depth interviews and analyzed using descriptive statistics and quantitative analysis. The results found that the cost of raising giant sea bass using a semi-natural method in earthen ponds with tilapia, at a ratio of 2:1 (sea bass to tilapia), involves releasing tilapia weighing 150 grams one month earlier to allow them to give birth, providing food for the sea bass. Then, 1,000 2-inch sea bass per rai are released and fed 40 % protein pellets once a day to meet their dietary needs. It took 8-12 months to raise and produce 255 kilograms of sea bass per rai. The total raising costs were 33,107.09 baht per rai, with an average variable cost of 27,216.88 baht per rai, accounting for 82.21 %, and a fixed cost of 5,890.21 baht per rai, accounting for 17.79 %. Sea bass products are sold at 200 baht per kilogram, yielding a total income of 23,783.12 baht per rai. The model yields a net income of 17,892.91 baht per rai per crop and a net profit of 70.17 baht per kilogram.
