Abstract

This research aimed to study wastewater management in Ubon Ratchathani province and public participation in wastewater management. It was a mixed methods research using an interview form for 12 agencies and a questionnaire for 417 samples according to Yamane's formula at 0.05 level of reliability. Data were collected in 8 districts on wastewater policy and management, demographic information, economy and society, water usage, wastewater treatment and sewerage, public participation in wastewater management and opinions on people's participation in wastewater management. The statistics used were percentage, mean, standard deviation, multiple regression analysis and content analysis. The results showed that the policy of wastewater management was clear and beneficial to the management. On the management side, there was an appropriate wastewater management model to water needs and wastewater management but there was a problem of redundancy in some overlapping areas. The government gave people the opportunity to participate in wastewater management. There was wastewater treatment with septic tanks. For business establishments, grease traps were installed and large industrial plants had wastewater treatment systems as required by law. People were affected by wastewater in urban areas. Overall public participation in wastewater management was 67.9 percent. Factors affecting the public participation were perception of the causes of wastewater problems, awareness of the impact of wastewater and demographic status.
