Abstract

Nano-aluminosilicate was synthesized using nanocellulose as a template. The nanocellulose was extracted from sugarcane bagasse through chemical treatment and sulfuric acid hydrolysis. After template removal by calcination, a TEM image clearly showed a hollow tubular structure with an average diameter of 2.25 nm, closely resembling the structure of the original nanocellulose template. The material possessed a high specific surface area of 578 m²/g and exhibited weak surface acidity, with a Lewis-to-Brønsted acid site ratio of approximately 2:1. The catalytic performance for glucose conversion to 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF) was evaluated using a biphasic solvent system with a THF:H₂O ratio of 3:2 in the presence of 15 wt% sodium chloride. Under optimal reaction conditions (190 °C, 45 min, 3 wt% catalyst loading), the synthesized nano-aluminosilicate achieved a glucose conversion of 97% with a 5-HMF yield of 52.48%, while levulinic acid, a by-product, was detected only in low amounts.
