Abstract

This research is the objective to develop a serum from tamarind seed coat extract and study its effectiveness in moisturizing the skin. Method of study: Extract the essence from the tamarind seed coat. By fermenting 85% ethanol for a period of 7 days, evaporating the solvent with a rotary evaporator. It was found that the tamarind seed coat has antioxidant activity using the DPPH method. The extracts were then developed into 3 formulas of facial serum. The physical and chemical stability were tested in 7 cycles of acceleration at temperatures of 5, 45 degrees Celsius tests safety with a skin patch test and studies the effectiveness of skin moisture with a Corneometer. Evaluate skin condition at the time before use and after 14 days of use and studies satisfaction with using facial serum products from peel extracts. Tamarind seed data was collected using a questionnaire. Statistics used to collect data include average percentages. Standard deviation, P-value, statistical test paired-sample t Test and the results tamarind seed coat extract has antioxidant activity with an EC50 value of 2.10±0.23 mg/ml and a phenolic compound content of 757.17±2.60 mg gallic acid per gram of extract the results of the stability test showed that Serum was clear yellow in color. The acidity and alkalinity did not change significantly. The serum has no separation of layers. And it was found that after using the facial serum product, formula 3, for a period of 28 days, the average moisture level was 47.966±12.804 of moisture, P < 0.05. which serum from tamarind seed coat extract, formula 3, has physical and chemical stability has the effect of moisturizing the skin. It can be further developed into products for skin care.
