Abstract
“How reliable are surveys?” This question might arise when you read the survey results. In fact, error in survey data can result in poor reliability and validity, and there are many factors to consider when using these data, for example, sampling method used in data collection, type of questions asked in questionnaire, and weight adjustment assigned to each survey respondent. In this article, we propose all issues for consideration in reliability of survey data. First, sampling frame indicates the coverage of target population in survey. Second, sampling methods explain how survey was conducted and what sample size is needed for the survey. Third, questionnaire design indicates the reliability of survey answers. Fourth, fieldwork activities ensure the quality of the field processes. Fifth, weighting procedure is designed to remove bias from a survey data and make the sample more closely represent the population. The final factor is the interpretation and the conclusion of the survey results. These factors will help readers to determine whether survey data is reliable.
