Abstract

Chili is an economically vital crop with high nutrient requirements, meaning its production relies heavily on large amounts of chemical fertilizers, which increases production costs and adversely affects long-term soil quality. Utilizing plant growth-promoting bacteria, such as Bacillus megaterium,
in combination with integrated nutrient management serves as a sustainable alternative strategy to reduce production costs and enhance chili yields. This research aimed to investigate the effects of
B. megaterium NK12-1 biological agent in combination with nutrient management using organic and chemical fertilizers on the growth, yield, and nutrient uptake of 'Sisaket 1' chili. The experiment was conducted using a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with four replications, comprising eight treatments: treatment 1 control, treatment 2 organic fertilizer at 1,000 kg/rai, treatment 3 organic fertilizer at 500 kg/rai combined with chemical fertilizer based on soil analysis, treatment 4 chemical fertilizer based on soil analysis, treatment 5 seed soaking with B. megaterium NK12-1 biological agent, treatment 6 seed soaking with B. megaterium NK12-1 biological agent  combined with organic fertilizer at 1,000 kg/rai, treatment 7 seed soaking with B. megaterium NK12-1 biological agent combined with organic fertilizer at 500 kg/rai and chemical fertilizer based on soil analysis and treatment 8 seed soaking with B. megaterium NK12-1 biological agent combined with chemical fertilizer based on soil analysis. The results indicated that nutrient management (treatments 3, 4, 7, and 8) significantly influenced canopy width (p ≤ 0.01), chlorophyll content (p ≤ 0.05), and yield (p≤0.01). Specifically, treatment 3 organic fertilizer at 500 kg/rai combined with chemical fertilizer based on soil analysis achieved the maximum canopy width of 60.44 cm, the highest chlorophyll content of 39.72 SPAD units, and the highest yield at 49.16 kg/rai compared to the control; however, nutrient management showed no significant effects on plant height or fruit size. Regarding nutrient uptake, nitrogen and potassium uptake did not differ significantly among treatments. However, for phosphorus uptake, the treatment involving seed soaking with B. megaterium NK12-1 biological agent combined with organic fertilizer at 500 kg/rai and chemical fertilizer based on soil analysis resulted in the highly significantly highest (p ≤ 0.01) phosphorus uptake at 0.0191 g/dry plant (roots, stems, and leaves) compared to the control.
