A study was conducted to evaluate the supplementation of jerusalen artichoke (JA) in broiler diet at thelevels 1, 2, 3 or 4 % compared with control or control fortified with chlortetracycline (CTC) on live performance, carcass quality, breast meat fat and cholesterol content and also health status on hematocrit (HTC), serum alanineaminotransferase (ALT) and cholesterol content. Feeding JA and CTC at the levels of 1 to 4 % showed both betterincreased in body weight gain (BWG) and better improvement in feed efficiency but did not differ significantly(P>0.05) from control group for all periods of feeding. Breast meat fat content was decreased (P<0.01) and alsobreast meat cholesterol trended to decrease (P>0.05) when compared with the control group. No significant effectof JA and HTC, but ALT and cholesterol in chicks serum showed significantly decreased (P<0.05) when fed alllevels of JA and decreased (P<0.05) when fed at 3% JA in the diet. Mortality was reduced when JA and CTC werefed. Feeding JA at 3 % in broiler diet demonstrated beneficial in both BWG, feed efficiency and mortality foralternative replacement of CTC for antibiotic growth promoter.
