Satisfaction of Banana Growers on the Agricultural Extension Work of Tha Yang Agricultural Cooperatives Limited, Tha Yang District, Phetchaburi Province

Abstract

Objectives of this research were to study: 1) demographic factors, 2) economic factors,
3) agricultural extension factors, 4) media exposure toward agricultural information, 5) satisfaction of banana
growers on the agricultural extension work of Tha Yang Agricultural Cooperatives Limited, Tha Yang district,
Phetchaburi province and 6) relationships between demographic factors, economic factors, agricultural
extension, media exposure toward agricultural information , and satisfaction of banana growers on the


agricultural extension work of Tha Yang Agricultural Cooperatives Limited. Samples consisted of 168
members of banana growers at Tha Yang Agricultural Cooperatives Limited. Data were collected by using
questionnaire. Statistical analyses were frequency, percentage, arithmetic mean, standard deviation,
minimum, maximum, and chi-square.Results showed that most of farmers were female with an average
age of 52.87 years old, attaining an elementary education or lower. The average experiences in banana
cultivation were 8.61 years. The average areas of banana cultivation were 7.06 rai. Household labors for
banana cultivation were 4 persons . Most of farmers earned income from banana cultivation with the average
38,213.10 Baht/rai and the average expenses of banana cultivation were 13,712.86 Baht/rai. The average
number of training in agriculture was 1.41 times/year. The average number of meeting with the extension
workers of the agricultural cooperative was 2.29 times/year. Farmers got information about agriculture from
people media (42.3%) which were from community leaders and neighbors, mass media (60.1%) from
brochures, newspapers, journals, and books about agriculture. Most farmers got specialized media (49.4%)
from meeting. The overall average satisfaction of banana growers on the agricultural extension of Tha Yang
Agricultural Cooperatives Limited was at the high level. Testing hypotheses indicated gender and experience
in growing banana were related to the overall satisfaction of banana growers on the agricultural extension
work of Tha Yang Agricultural Cooperatives Limited at 0.05 level of significance.
