Abstract

This article aims to present the application of Ikigai principle to improve the performance of life insurance agents. Ikigai is a Japanese philosophical concept that emphasizes the value and purpose of life. The work of life insurance agents requires a combination of professional skills, customer service, and problem-solving abilities, all of which must be grounded in ethical standards and moral conduct. Life insurance agents are a vital distribution channel in the life insurance industry; thus, the development of their performance is crucial in meeting customer needs. The application of Ikigai principle to improve the performance of life insurance agents can be implemented through four key approaches 1) fostering motivation and inspiration in the workplace, 2) developing professional expertise, 3) cultivating a sense of social purpose, and 4) establishing a clear mission. These approaches represent an internal conceptual process that leads to external behavioral outcomes, contributing to the effective, appropriate, and sustainable development of life insurance agents’ performance.
