Longon (Euphoria Longana Lamk) is one of Thailand's economical seasonal furits, grown in the northern region mainly in Chiang mai and Lampoon. The planted area is about 82,000 rai. This year, the production of fruit is about 40 million tons between July and September. There are many varieties of longan but only six varieties are most acceptable by Thai consumers in its fresh state. They are Si Chompoo, Biew Khiew, Haew, Dor, Dang and Bai Dum. The fruit is juicy, crisp, smooth in texture and pleasantly sweet flavor. Shelf life of the fruits is very short because of high respiration rate. Most of these fruit are processed in the form of canned and dehydrated products.
