STUDY ON FEEDLOT FEEDING OF WHITE LAMPHUN BULLS WITH 2 LEVELS OF CONCENTRATE

Abstract

To study on feedlot feeding of White Lamphun bulls by using 2 groups of animal, ages between 1 and 1 1/2 years old. Both groups, with 7 animals in each group consumed Ruzi grass and rice straw and supplemented with concentrate at the rates of 1.0 and 1.5 percent of body weight by group 1 and 2, respectively. The experiment was carried out until the body weight of each animal was about 300 kilogram. The average daily gain of both groups was 492.7 gram (P> 0.05). The average time spent in feedlot was 307 days for both groups (P> 0.05). The total feed consumption was 5.61 kilogram per day by group 1 and was 6.15 kilogram per day by group 2 (P <0.05). The average feed conversion ratio for both groups was 12.16 kg (P> 0.05). The total costs (the price of the animal plus the feed cost) were 6,605.12 and 7,800.97 Baht in group 1 and 2, respectively (P <0.01). So the benefit from this feedlot feeding experiment were 1,537.31 Baht in group 1 and only 409, 28 Baht in group 2 (P <0.01)
