REPRODUCTIVE ABORTION AND IMPROVEMENT OF YIELD COMPONENTS IN SOYBEAN
Main Article Content
Abstract
Basically, reproductive growth in soybean depends largely on source strength of the mother plants. However, seed yield obtained is not always dependent upon the source strength. Some soybean varieties can produce a higher number of flowers, but they also drop a relatively high proportion of flowers and pods resulting in low seed yields. Sink limitation is considered to be a key factor that may be operated through endogenous plant hormones. To improve reproductive efficiency in soybean, apart from breeding programme aiming to reduce reproductive abortion percentage, another promising possibility is the using of exogenous growth regulators in controlling and/or promoting pod set
