Roots of Semiaquilegia adoxoides (DC.) Makino have been used as medicinal herb for years in China, but there have been very little information about theirs chemical components. In this paper, chemical componentsfrom roots of S. adoxoides in Guizhou province, extracted by petroleum ether, were isolated and identified byusing gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) technique. There were peak-line maps of 31 substances. Thechemical structures of 12 substances were identified. Content of each component in the volatile oil was confirmed bypeak area normalization method. Content of components detected was 90.55% of total extracts from root of S. adoxoides.Content of β-sitosterol, linoleic acid, oleic acid, and palmitic acid was 38.26%, 18.73%, 15.68%, and 13.51%,respectively.
