Adoption on Turkish tobacco production technology base on agricultural practices guidelines of farmers in Roi Et province

Abstract

This research was aimed to study: 1) basic socio–economic background of farmers 2) Turkish tobacco production practices and problems of farmers 3) the adoption of farmers on Turkish tobacco production technology following the guidelines for Turkish tobacco production and 4) the comparisons among the adoption of farmers with some socio–economic backgrounds on agricultural practice guidelines for Turkish tobacco production in Roi Et province throughout agricultural season 2018-2019. This research is qualitative research that collected data of which using interview form with confident interval value of 0.79 from the sample of 183 farmers during October to December 2019. The statistical tool used in this study composes of frequency, percentage, mean, max-min value, standard deviation, t-test, and F-test. The results revealed that 58.50% of farmers were male with age 53.66 years old on average. The farmers had an average agricultural area of 13.63 rai. In 2018, the farmers had an average total income of 161,480.50 baths which was derived from Turkish tobacco production for 36,110 baths and had an average debt of 29,797 baths. The average size of the Turkish tobacco growing area was 2.70 rai. All farmers used the Samsun variety. Most of farmers planted on the plain areas with single row, the average yield of Turkish tobacco was 172.02 kilogram/rai. Overall, the adoption of farmers on Turkish tobacco production technology following the agricultural practices guidelines was found that the farmers followed the recommended practices at a low level at the average value of 1.16. The issues that farmers accepted at a low level were 1) tobacco planting during October-November 2) shading 3 – 5 days before sun exposure 3) fermenting tobacco leaves and cover the leaves pile thoroughly, respectively.
