Cost and revenue analysis of soybean production in the dry season of famers in Khon Kaen province

Abstract

Soybean is widely grown for its edible bean, which has numerous uses. This study aimed to study socio-demographic of soybean production in the dry season of famers in Khon Kaen province and analyze the cost and revenue of soybean production. The sample were selected by random sampling of 122 farmers in Chum Phae District, Khon Kaen Province. Most of the farmers were male. The average age of farmers were 59 years old and they had married status, and the highest education were primary school. The total cost average per rai for planting soybeans was 2,483.49 baht, which has the average yield about 206.42 kilogram/rai. The average revenue was 3,319.23 baht/rai, and the net profit was 835.76 baht/rai. The results show that the most of expenditure were labor cost and soy bean seed. From the results of the study, it was found that most of the costs incurred were the cost of labor and soybean seed. To reduce labor costs, farmers should encourage to harvest by cooperated together as well as to reduce the purchase of seeds when planting soybeans in the dry season after paddy fields in the following year.
