Abstract

Effects of 4 training systems (open center, Y-trellis, palmette and slender spindle) on some vegetativeand reproductive characteristics of guava (Psidium guajava L.) cv. Yen Song in the first bearing year was investigated. The experiment was conducted at the experimental field of Department of Horticulture, Kasetsart University,Kamphangsaen campus, Nakhon Pathom during April, 1998 to November, 1999. The objective of this experimentwas to find out the effects of the training systems on some vegetative characteristics, flowering and fruit set of guavacv. Yen Song in the first bearing year. The experiment was designed in CRD with 4 replications and the trainingsystems were treatments. The measuring was done on increased stem diameter, trunk cross-sectional area, number ofbranch per tree, number of flower per inflorescence, number of inflorescence per lateral shoot, number of inflores-cence per tree, number of flower per tree and fruit setting percentage in the first bearing year. The results showed thatvegetative and reproductive characteristics of guava in 4 training systems such as increased stem diameter, trunkcross-sectional area, number of branch per tree, number of flower per inflorescence, number of inflorescence perlateral shoot, number of inflorescence per tree, number of flower per tree and fruit setting percentage were notsignificantly different.
