The study of breeding approach for decrease abdominal fat in chicken
Main Article Content
Abstract
Excessive fat was a main problem in poultry production as a waste of slaughter house and it was undesired characteristic for consumer and mostly fat of poultry deposited in abdominal fat. The genetic factor had a highly effect to fat deposition. Therefore, genetic improvement could be used as potential tools for decrease an excessive fat in long term approach. Researchers reported that genetic parameters in part of heritability (h2) of abdominal fat weight (AFW) and percentage (AFP) were high (0.52-0.71) and considered that both traits should be favorable response for selection. Moreover, genetic correlation (rG) between bodyweight and abdominal fat deposition was positively moderate. Therefore, growth performance selection unfortunate to increase fat deposition. While, the carcass quality found that rG between AFW and carcass weight was positively (0.23). Whereas, rG between AFP and carcass weight was nearly to 0. Hence, the selection for against AFW might adverse effect to carcass weight but AFP and carcass quality was independent. Moreover, Intramuscular fat (IMF) had h2 in range 0.08-0.18 and related to meat flavor. These concluded that AFP and IMP should include in selection index with growth traits in cooperated to carcass quality and meat flavor. Additionally, several researchers reported that a genetic markers associated with fat deposition and a potential markers include a HFABP, GH, IGFII and MC4R gene.
