Effects of supplementing herb mixed drinking water on productive performance, carcass quality, and caecal microbial population
Main Article Content
Abstract
The objective of this study aimed to investigate the effect of supplementing herb mixed drinking water on productive performance, carcass quality, and caecal microbial population. One hundred sixty 7 day old chicks were randomly divided into 4 groups of 4 replicates with 10 birds/replicate. Four treatments were: T1; commercial vitamin added to drinking water at 5 g/L (control group), T2 and T3; coriander seed powder added at 5 and 10 g/L of drinking water, respectively, and T4; commercial oregano extract added at 5 g/L of drinking water. All bird groups received commercial feed throughout the experimental period. The results revealed the weight gain of T2 - T4 were higher than the control group (P<0.01). Feed intake, FCR and drinking water consumption were not significantly different between groups (P>0.05). The survival percentage in all groups were not different (P>0.05). T2 had significantly higher returns on investment than the other groups (P<0.01). Although all groups had different carcass quality characteristics (P>0.05), but lactic acid bacteria were significantly more prevalent in the caecal content of T2 - T4 than in the control group (P<0.01).
