The Transmission of the Cultural Craft Wisdom, Krajood Wicker Product at Ban Huayleuk in Suratthani

Abstract

This research aimed to 1) study the role of members belonging to Ban Huayleuk Krajood Wicker Products Group and 2) investigate the communication strategies used for the group’s craft wisdom transmission. This qualitative research gathered data from relevant documents and researches, in-depth interview, observation, focus group discussion and a community workshop. The key informants included developers, folk wisdom teachers, young people, scholars, network groups and journalists. The study employed the purposive sampling method. The study found that 1) members of Ban Huayleuk’s Krajood Wicker Products Group had a cooperative coordinator role as a message sender who determined the information, methods and channels for sending messages to receivers. 2) Ban Huayleuk Group adopted the communication strategy called “Play Model.” P (Participatory Communication) means participatory communication in all communicative planning processes, L (Learning) means learning the communication methods for seeking the most effective and suitable method for message receivers, A (Activity) means proper activities which accord with message receivers’ requirements and Y (Youngers) means young message receivers.
