Abstract

Allelochemicals form plant can be manipulated for weed control in crop production which a one of alternative methods is a combination of allelopathic water extracts form plant with lower dosage of the herbicide. Thus, this research aimed to study an effect of itchgrass (Rottboellia cochinchinensis (Lour.) W.D. Clayton) water extracts combined with reduced dosages of pendimethalin on weed control in sweet corn under the experiment field at Department of Agronomy, Faculty of Agriculture at Kamphaeng Sean, Kasetsart University, Nakorn Pathom on January – April, 2016. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) and replicated four times. Itchgrass water extracts (IWE) was tank mixed at 60, 40 and 20 L/rai in different combinations with reduced doses of pendimethalin by 21, 41 and 62 g a.i./rai, respectively and sprayed as pre-emergence herbicide to compare with the control. The crop injury, growth response, yield component and yield of sweet corn, weed control efficacy and weed density per area were determined. The result showed that pendimethalin at 41 and 62 g a.i./rai combined with IWE treatments at doses of 40 and 20 L/rai showed good suppression of weeds at 60 days after application and no effects on growth, yield component and yield of sweet corn. The result suggested that the combination between pendimethalin and IWE can reduce pendimethalin dosage, which reduced by 25 – 50% when compared with the recommend dose.
