Abstract

The objective of this study was to determine the effects of pineapple juice supplementation level on growth performance and feces physical characteristic of growing pigs. Twenty-seven (Landrace×Large White×Duroc) growing pigs, initial weight at 24.27±5.55 kg were use in this study. The pigs were randomized to 3 groups according to pineapple juice supplementation level: group 1) level 0 of pineapple juice, pigs were fed a basal diet containing copra meal + pineapple juice: water ratio at 0:1 (CM+PaJ0), group 2) level 1 of pineapple juice, pigs were fed a basal diet containing copra meal+pineapple juice: water ratio at 1:1 (CM+PaJ1), and group 3) level 2 of pineapple juice, pigs were fed a basal diet containing copra meal + pineapple juice: water ratio at 1:0 (CM+PaJ2). The results of the effects of pineapple juice supplementation level on growth performance showed that, in the second week pigs in CM+PaJ2 group had the greatest average daily gain (ADG) (P=0.04). Treatment groups had no effect on feed intake (FI) and feed conversion ratio (FCR) (P>0.05). Gender of pig had an effect on growth performance as well. Castrated pigs had greater of ADG, FCR, and FI than female pigs throughout the experimental period (P<0.05). In addition, the pineapples juice supplementation level in diet has no effect on the physical characteristics and color of pig feces(P>0.05). However, CM+PaJ2 group resulted to unstable shape and yellow color than CM+PaJ1 and CM+PaJ0 group. Gender of pig had no effect on physical characteristics and color of pig feces(P>0.05). In conclusion, pineapple juice supplementation level had an effect on the growth performance in growing pigs. The growth performance increased with the pineapple juice supplementation level increased. The pigs in CM+PaJ2 group had the best growth performance. The level of pineapple juice supplementation had no effect on physical characteristics of pig feces.
