Development of a Basic Thai Singing Skills Training Package in an Electronic Book Format

Abstract

This research aims to construct a basic Thai singing skills training package in an electronic book (e-book) format for the general public interested in learning Thai singing. Data were gathered through interviews with Thai singing experts and field research, then analyzed to identify the principles of Thai singing and to construct the training package. The study employed a qualitative research design, using a semi-structured interview as the research instrument and descriptive analysis to interpret the data.

The findings revealed that this e-book training package serves as an innovative learning tool with its content arranged in a sequential, step-by-step manner. Ideal for beginners, it supports self-directed learning and can be effectively integrated into instructional settings. The content is divided into five sections: 1) foundational knowledge of Thai singing and sitting posture for singing; 2) melismatic singing methods (Euan), featuring exercises for word pronunciation and vocal embellishments; 3) Thai vocal notation, covering pitch symbols and musical bars; 4) Thai singing techniques; and 5) foundational songs—specifically Sam Siang Phairo (Song Chan), Lao Ton Nok (Song Chan), and Lao Joi (Song Chan)—complete with instructional videos covering all techniques and repertoire. Ultimately, this training package offers significant academic value by preserving and disseminating traditional Thai singing knowledge through a digital platform tailored to today's learning environment.
