Nursing of Common Lowland Frog (Rana rugulosa) Fed with Yeast Incorporated Diet

Abstract

This study was conducted in order to assess the effect of different levels of diet incorporation of live yeast on the growth, survival and economic feasibility of nursing common lowland frog (Rana rugulosa Wiegmann, 1935). A completely randomized design with three replications was used in the study. Common lowland frog was fed with live yeasts 0 (control), 1x105, 1×106, 1×107, 1×108 and 1×109 cells/ml/g by commercial feed. Results found that frogs fed 1×109 cells/ml/g incorporation had the highest recorded final weight and it was significant higher as compared to control and the rent of treatment (p<0.05). Meanwhile, survival percentage of 1×109 cells/ml/g was significant lower as compared to control (p<0.05). Live yeast supplementation has increased the costs and lowered the profit and return on investment of nursing common lowland frog. The study has concluded that supplementation live yeast in commercial feeds was not economically feasible even though the highest yeast incorporation had significant increase in the final weight of common lowland frog.
