The Role of Artificial Intelligence on Supporting Smart Agriculture for Thailand in the Era of 5.0
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article presents the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in smart agriculture in Thailand during the 5.0 era, focusing on explaining the definitions scope and applications of artificial intelligence in the agricultural sector, including opportunities, challenges and case studies. AI is considered a high-potential technology for solving complex problems in agricultural systems, including the management of soil, water and environmental resources; the detection of plant diseases and pests through photography and drones; the prediction of yields and climate conditions; and the management of supply chains and markets. Integrating AI into the agricultural sector aligns with the “Thailand 5.0” concept, which emphasizes development based on science, technology and innovation aiming to create a balance between economy society, and environment. The study’s findings demonstrate that AI helps increase productivity, reduce costs and support sustainable farming practices. However, several challenges remain, such as capital limitations for smallholder farmers, the lack of personnel with digital skills and inadequate data infrastructure and internet connectivity. Case studies from smart farm research projects and Thai startups reflect the potential of artificial intelligence in actual agricultural development. Policy recommendations should therefore focus on developing AI innovations appropriate to the Thai context supporting budgets and incentives training farmers in digital skills and fostering collaboration among government private sector and educational institutions to create an innovation ecosystem that supports the advancement of Thailand's smart agriculture in the future.
