Sesame Meal as Soybean Meal Substitute in Layer Diets

Abstract
Sesame meal (SSM) which was used to substitute soybean meal (SBM) in this study was from 3 sources, i.e., 1) from a local oil extraction plant, using mechanical process. 2) from Myanmar (black meal). 3) from China (white meal). All of the meals had considerably high protein content, 70-90% of SBM. Methionine level of meal was twice higher than SBM. The result from layer experiment revealed that local SSM could be used in pullets during 6-20 weeks of age at 5% of the diets. It is not recommended to feed layers. Imported SSM of black and white colors could be used at 8-12% of layer diets which was equal to 75-100% SBM, respectively, without adverse effect on egg performances.
