Growth and Development of Fig Fruit cv.Black Genoa Grown in Chiang Mai Province
Keywords:
Ficus carica L., double sigmoid curve, fruit qualityAbstract
Study on growth and development of Ficus carica L. cv. Black genoa was carried out in Pomology greenhouse, Maejo University, Chiang Mai province from December 2018 to March 2019 at 322 meters sea level. The objective of this study obtains information on the growth and development of fig fruits that can be used as a guideline for further product quality development. We have selected 10 trees in Pomology greenhouse and label the name on the inflorescences of 120 flowers/10 trees and randomly collected 5 fruits per week. Data were recorded fruit weight, fruit width, fruit length, total soluble solids, total titratable acidity, firmness, and fruit color. It was found that the growth of fig had grown characteristics by double sigmoid curve. In the first phase, weeks 1-4 had an average weight of 0.01-0.44 grams, width of 1.89-6.69 millimeters, length of 2.03-10.17 millimeters. The second phase, 5-8 weeks had an average weight of 0.74-11.59 grams, width of 12.85-31.6 millimeters, length of 21.48-50.66 mm. In the third phase, week 9-12 had an average weight of 12.97-69.39 grams, width of 33.21-40.94 millimeters, length of 52.57-62.79 millimeters and the total soluble solids of 6-12 weeks at 6.3-17.8 ºBrix, total titratable acid week 6-12 at 0.19-0.23%, fruit firmness week 6-12 at 1.4-0.1 kg/cm2. The fruits will change from green to yellow in the 10 weeks and will turn reddish-purple to black-purple in the 12 weeks respectively.
