Factors Related to Good Agricultural Practice (GAP) for Cut – Flower Orchids of Farmers, Bang Yang Sub – District, Krathum Baen District, Samut Sakhon Province

Abstract

The objectives of this research were to study; 1) demographic factors, 2) economic and social
factors, 3) using chemical substance factors, 4) media exposure to information of orchids factors, 5) good
agricultural practice (GAP) for cut – flower orchids and 6) relationship between demographic factors,
economic and social factors, using chemical substance factors, media exposure to information of orchids
factors, with good agricultural practice (GAP) for cut – flower orchids of Farmers. Data were collected by
using interview schedule. Samples were 128 farmers, Statistical analysis were frequency, percentage,
mean, standard deviation, minimum, maximum and chi-square. The results showed that most
flower – orchids farmers were male, average age 52.10 years old, attaining an elementary education. 

The average experience were 20.18 years. Most of the famers earned income from orchids cultivation with
the average 62,270.37 Baht/rai/year. The average expense of orchid cultivation was 26,600.17 Baht/rai/year.
The average areas of orchids cultivation were 9.21 Rai, labors were 1 – 3 persons. chemical
fertilizers accelerate the growth of orchid with the average 4 times/month; supplement (rooting/flower
size/nourishing) with the average 3.75 times/month; pesticides with the average 4.71 times/month. most
farmers got information of orchids from specialized media, most farmers never receiving information from
online media. The overall average good agricultural practice (GAP) for cut – flower orchids was practicing
according to an advice. The testing of hypotheses indictated educational level, marketing, expense of
orchids cultivation, areas of orchids cultivation and labors with the good agricultural practice (GAP) for cut
– flower orchids cultivation at 0.05 and 0.01 level of significance.
