Production and Economic Return of Mango cv. Nam Dok Mai Si Tong Grown in Chachoengsao Province

Abstract

The purposes of this research were 1) to study the generality of mango cv. Nam Dok Mai Si Tong production in Chachoengsao province, 2) to compare the production costs and returns of the mango cv. Nam Dok Mai Si Tong production between the only local selling and both local and export selling and 3) to investigate the problems, obstacles and suggestions from farmers. The sample was obtained by a quota sampling which consisted of 71 farmers who had produced mango cv. Nam Dok Mai Si Tong production in Chachoengsao province. Data were collected by interviews, and analyzed by percentage, mean, standard deviation and t-test.The results showed that most of famers were male and whose average age equals 54.83 years. Most of them graduated with lower than secondary school and were married. The number of household members was mostly 3-5; but the number of household members producing mangoes was mostly 1-2. The average costs and returns per rai of the production for local markets only were 18,500 Baht and 11,195 Baht, respectively. The average costs and returns per rai of the production for export and local markets were 12,882 Baht and 41,808 Baht, respectively. From the analysis by t-test, it was found that the costs per rai of the production for local markets only and for export and local markets were not statistical significantly different at the 0.05 level, but the returns of the production for export and local markets were statistical significant higher than the production for local markets only at the 0.05 level. The destructive disease of mangoes was mostly anthracnose and the destructive pest was mostly thrips.
