Factors Affecting Rice Production through the Use of Agricultural Mechanization to Create Sustainability for Early-Labor Generation Factors Affecting Rice Production through the Use of Agricultural Mechanization to Create Sustainability for Early-Labor Generation
Main Article Content
Abstract
The agricultural sector in Thailand is a vital part of the economy, currently employing approximately 30% of the total workforce. However, it faces labor and human capital shortages, particularly among young working-age individuals who are crucial to agricultural development. Agricultural mechanization is therefore a key strategy for increasing productivity, reducing labor burdens, and ensuring the sustainability of agricultural employment. This research aims to investigate the factors influencing rice yield through the use of agricultural mechanization, to promote the long-term engagement of young working-age individuals. It seeks to propose appropriate policies and practical guidelines for promoting effective and sustainable access to mechanization. Using a sample of 1,855 farming households and analyzing data using linear regression model, the results showed a high level of explanation for rice yield variance (R² = 0.879) and statistical significance (p < 0.001). The findings indicated a positive correlation between increased mechanization and rice yield per rai. Groups utilizing all three stages of mechanization achieved an average yield of approximately 573.77 kg/rai. Promoting the appropriate use of agricultural mechanization significantly increases rice production, plays a crucial role in ensuring the sustainability of agricultural employment, and motivates young working-age farmers to remain secure in the agricultural sector. This study provides preliminary empirical data to inform policy formulation aimed at promoting the use of agricultural technology, developing water infrastructure, and supporting young farmers, thereby enhancing rice production efficiency and strengthening the sustainability of agricultural labor in Thailand.
