Abstract

The objective of this research was to compare the efficacy of formalin, copper sulfate, acetic acid, potassium permanganate and trichlorfon (Dipterex®) on controlling tricodiniasis in Nile tilapia fingerlings. Fish were randomly sampled from earthen pond that had heavy Trichodina spp. infection and raised in 6 tanks of 30 fish each. Each tank was supplemented with each of the 5 chemicals or left untreated for negative control and left for 24 hours. Skin and gill scraping of fish before and after treatment were performed for treatment efficacy evaluation. The results of this study showed significant difference among chemical treatments for inactivation of Trichodina spp. (p<0.01). Formalin, acetic acid and potassium permanganate can eradicate Trichodina spp. of Nile tilapia.
