Factors Affecting the Farmers’ Intention of Wheat Production in Samoeng District, Chiang Mai

This research aimed to study wheat production intention and analyze the factors influencing such intention among farmers in Samoeng district, Chiang Mai, by applying the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB). The population consisted of 80 farmers registered for wheat cultivation with the Samoeng Rice Research Center during the 2024/2025 season. Data were collected using a 5-point Likert scale questionnaire with a reliability coefficient of 0.94. Statistical analysis included descriptive statistics and multiple regression analysis. The results showed that the overall intention of farmers toward wheat production was at a high level (=4.12). Considering individual factors, attitude toward the behavior had the highest mean at the highest level (
=4.21), followed by perceived behavioral control (
=4.11) and subjective norm (
= 4.04), respectively. The multiple regression analysis indicated that all three factors significantly predicted wheat production intention, accounting for 69.7% of the variance (
=0.697) at a 0.01 significance level. Perceived behavioral control was the most influential factor (
=0.659), followed by attitude toward the behavior (
=0.323) and subjective norm (
=0.240). The findings suggest that relevant agencies should enhance farmers' confidence in resources and technology while developing clear market mechanisms and guaranteed prices to ensure production sustainability.
