Abstract

This issue of the Journal of Agricultural Research and Extension, Volume 43, Number 2 (May–August 2026), is published amidst the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, which has triggered global economic volatility and an energy crisis. The tension around the Strait of Hormuz has directly impacted major global oil and gas shipping routes, particularly affecting oil, which serves as the primary fuel for agricultural machinery. Additionally, we are witnessing the onset of "Super El Niño"—a phenomenon where sea surface temperatures in the Pacific Ocean rise severely above average (by more than 2°C). This has caused severe global weather anomalies, leaving Thailand and Southeast Asia highly vulnerable to dry spells, extreme heat, and severe droughts, which threaten food security. This phenomenon is projected to begin around June this year and persist until mid-next year. Consequently, Thai farmers must smartly adapt their agricultural practices to navigate these crises, supported by government assistance through various preparatory measures and response plans.

This issue features a diverse range of compelling research articles. Key topics include production and propagation technologies, the utilization of microorganisms such as bacteria, Mekong giant catfish aquaculture, and plant growth studies. Additionally, the articles cover product development, ecosystem services, and remote sensing technology. There is also a study on land tenure security and sustainable land use in National Reserved Forests, which is crucial for agricultural development in forest areas. All articles in this issue have been thoroughly peer-reviewed and selected for researchers, students, and interested individuals to study and build upon for the prosperity of Thai agriculture.
