Analysis of Cost and Return of Rice Production in Phra Ajan Sub-district, Ongkarak District, Nakhonnayok Province, A Comparison between Tenants and Land Owners

Abstract

The purposes of this research were 1) to study the rice farmer characteristic; 2) to compare the
costs and returns on grain production between the tenants and landowners; 3) to analyze the factors of
rice production efficiency tenants and landowners; Data were collected from 86 samples of rice farmers
in Phra Ajan sub-district, Ongkarak district, Nakhonnayok province, The study revealed that an average
cost of rice production of landowners was 4,826.01 Thai Baht (THB) per rai, consisting variable costs
at 3,840.12 THB per rai, and fixed cost at 985.89 THB per rai, While an average cost rice production of
tenants was 5,191.49 THB per rai, consisting variable costs at 3,616.61 THB per rai, and fixed cost at
1,574.88 THB per rai. an average gross income from rice production of the landowners at 8,353.83 THB
per rai, and net profit at 3,527.82 THB per rai. and the average gross income from rice production of the

tenants at 8,402.40 THB per rai, and net profit at 3,210.91 THB per rai. The results of production efficiency
by the application of Cobb - Douglas function revealed that both group had insignificant efficiency
difference. One input factor overuse man labour.
